Achievement of Students in Nursing Informatics Course in First Time Implementation,ZINAB ABD-ELTWAB HASSAN and GEHAN M.A. MOSTAFA
Abstract
At present, nursing informatics is the specialty that inte-grates into nursing science, computer science and information science in identifying, collecting, processing and managing data and information to support nursing practice, administra-tion, education, research and the expansion of nursing knowl-edge. A combination of computer science, information science and nursing science designed to assist in the managements and processing of nursing data, information and knowledge to support the practice of nursing and the delivery of nursing care. Informatics can help nurses to make better clinical decisions via effective patient care management nursing informatics is term that is used to describe the cross functional interrelationship between nursing concepts and information resources and technology. This study was aimed to achievement of students in nursing informatics course in first time imple-mentation. The sample was 113 second year students at Faculty of Nursing, Helwan University. Data collection tools consisted of student knowledge questionnaire sheet and the students' grades of achievements and their exam percentages were calculated. The study results indicated that the majority of students knowledge regarding the nursing informatics course was satisfactory. Obstacles to using of nursing informatics as reported from students sample was lack of competence, lack of infrastructure support, funding and training. The studies recommended integrate throughout all 4 years of study and updating nursing informatics skills for nursing programs.
