The Pattern of Homeless Children's Daily Life and its Impact on Their Health,SAHAR M. SOLIMAN and HALA ELGRWANY

 

Abstract
Today, the phenomenon of street children is considered to be the most important problem facing children in both the developed and developing countries and still threaten societies around the world. Accordingly, this phenomenon needs to be figured out and solved. Descriptive cross section research design was used to explore the pattern of homeless children's daily life and its impact on their health and describe the actual health services provided by shelters. This study was conducted at El-horeya and Alexandria Association for Society Devel-opment for homeless. The study sample included 77 homeless children were present at the time of the study. Data was collected during the period from April 2009 to July 2009. The study revealed that the majority of children have been lived in squattered areas, most of them are illiterates, and almost all of them have poor hygiene and bad appearance. The majority of children (83.2%) suffered from skin & appendages problems, (58.5%) suffered from Gastro intestinal upsets and (27.1%) suffered from neurological manifestations. Those children exposed to different types of violence and abuse from their parents and stepparents and they have social and psychological problems.
