Abstract
The present study aimed at comparing the effect of glycolic acid and salicylic acid in facial skin peeling, as a treatment of some sequences of acne vulgaries (superficial acne scars, post acne pigmentation) & melasma (epidermal type). The skin was first wiped with alcohol to clean the skin and then scrubbed with acetone to degrease the skin. Each patient was treated on left side of face with glycolic acid 70% and right side with salicylic acid 30% in alcohol for 3 to 5min. The session was repeated every 2 weeks contra laterally for a total of six treatments. Evaluation of improvement was done one month after last session.
The study included 56 patients selected from the derma-tology out patient clinic, Suez Canal University Hospital, 28 patients complaining of epidermal melasma, 14 patients complaining of superficial acne scars and 14 patients com-plaining of post acne pigmentation. Both chemical peels showed significant improvement (p<0.05) in melasma and post acne sequences, but there was no statistically significant difference between them.
