Fetal Outcome of Diabetic Mothers: A Comparison between Gestational Diabetes vs Prenatally Diagnosed Diabetic Women,MOHAMED ABOUL KASM

 

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the fetal outcome among women with gestational diabetes compared with those who are known to be diabetic before pregnancy.
Design: Cohort study.
Setting: Tertiary referral center.
Participants and Methods: Women with gestational dia-betes between 34-36ws gestational were followed-up till delivery and outcome was compared with those who are known to be diabetic before pregnancy. All women had glycosylated Hb and Doppler studies of umbilical and middle cerebral arteries.
Results: There was a statistically significant difference between both groups as regard BMI, UT.A PI and UM.A PI (p<0.05) and also a highly statistically significant difference as regard, insulin dose, HbA1C, FBS, 2hPPS, APGAR1, APGAR5, neonatal glucose and delivery age but no difference in fetal weight.
Conclusion: Fetal outcome in women with GDM seems to be better than women known to be diabetic despite insulin control.
