Abstract
Introduction: The role of plasma amyloid beta level as a biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease has attracted many research-ers to explore yet its relation to cognitive functions in elderly is still not explored.
Objectives: To find relation between plasma amyloid beta level and cognitive functions in normal elderly. Hence, test the value of plasma amyloid beta levels as a biomarker of cognitive functions in non-demented elderly.
Subjects and methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study conducted on thirty eight non demented Egyptian subjects. Subjects included in this study were sub-jected to Global assessment of cognitive function and to assessment of specific cognitive domains. Plasma amyloid beta 42 level was measured.
Conclusion: Plasma amyloid beta levels are not related to cognitive performance in non demented elderly.
