Assessment of Maternal Health Services Provided by Rural Health Units in Assiut Governorate,HALA H. ABOUFADDAN
Abstract
The fifth Millennium Development Goal (MDG) aims to improve maternal health and its targets are reduced the maternal mortality ratio by three quarters, between 1990 and 2015, and achieve, by 2015, universal access to reproductive health.
Objective of the Study: Is to assess maternal health, and family planning services provided by rural health units.
Subjects and Methods: A cross sectional study was carried out in 12 rural health units (RHUs) using structured question-naire for data collection. The questionnaire consisted of three parts. The first part for care provider Interview, the second part was an exit interview with women attended RHUs. The third part was observation protocol tailored to the service being provided.
Results: Of the study found that there was significant difference between rural health unites of districts of Assiut governorate regarding maternal health service. Abnoub district having better services than other districts.
•71.1% of pregnant women had complete obstetric history, 90.4% of them had incomplete obstetric examination. 50% of RHUs provide natal care. Nurse played important roles in health education than doctors. History taken, physical examination and health education was better for new FP clients than recurrent.
Recommendations: Reinforcement of health education in all rural health units and increase supplying of rural health units with equipment needed for MCH services and in-service training of physicians and nurses.
