Quality of Nursing Care and Satisfaction for Patient Under Chemotherapy Treatment at Cairo Univeristy Hospitals,GEHAN A. OMRAN, MAGDA EL MOLLA and MOHGA ABD EL-AZIZ

 

Abstract
The purpose of study was to examine quality of provided nursing care and satisfaction for patient under chemotherapy treatment at the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. An exploratory descriptive design was utilized in the current study. All patients admitted to the chemotherapy unit (beds capacity 25 beds) at National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. The current study conducted on eight six patients who admitted to the chemotherapy unit within one month. Data were collected by two tools; one is 1- Observation checklist to assess quality of nursing care was developed by the investigator after re-viewing related literature, 2nd Patient satisfaction questionnaire. Study results showed that majority of nurse sample was females and they were graduated from technical institute of nursing. All nurses follow protocols of treatment which started from reviewing, assessing present condition and assessing the presence of complication that prevent administration of drug such as low blood pressure, also there are a relationship between nurse level of education with safe handling and manage chemotherapy side effect. Also the study conducted that a lot of nurses did not perform complete physical assess-ment, not wear complete personal protective equipment and not provided founded suitable storage for chemotherapy drug The majority of nurses did not document nursing care provided, Based on the finding of the present of study the following were recommended: 1- Continuing education for nurses about: A- How to perform physical assessment. B- Orientation for the new nurses about chemotherapy administration. C- Assess chemotherapy drug side effect and how can sleet best care to manage it. D- Overcoming the barriers to implementing a comprehensive safe handling program requires the support of administration and nursing and E- Benefit of personal protective equipment when chemotherapy administration.
