Clinical Correlation between the Degree of Surgical Resection of High Grade Gliomas and the Patients Survival,AHMED M. ALI
Abstract
Objective: To assess clinical correlation between degree of surgical resection in high grade glioms and patients survival.
Patients and Methods: Thirty cases were enrolled in this study. All cases had subjected to full clinical assessment, the patients neurological status were assessed by Karnofsky score pre and post operative, MR1 follow-up was performed in the first 72 hours post operative.
Results: Twenty two cases were operated by gross total resection, 4 cases by subtotal and 4 cases by partial resection. Four cases were Gr. III and 26 cases were Gr. IV. Three cases were free and had no recurrence within follow-up period, 27 cases had progression free survival ranging from 3m upto 18m with mean time 10.6m.
Conclusion: The degree of surgical resection in high grade gliomas, is an important factor in patients survival time, maximal cytoreduction of tumor bulk significantly improve patient long life expectancy.
