Abstract
Objectives: To high light the role of color power Doppler in evaluation and diagnosis of ovarian masses according to its morphological features, vascularity and other imaging parameters.
Setting: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Benha University Hospital.
Population: Thirty patients presented clinically by man-ifestations of adnexal masses in Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Benha University Hospital from March 2014 to August 2015. The age of the patients ranged from 17 to 50 years.
Patients and Methods: Thirty patients presented clinically by manifestations of adnexal lesions was subjected to ultra-sound evaluation with color power Doppler characterization of the adnexal masses. The most important points in the study were morphological features, vascularity and Resistive Index (RI).
Results: Out of 30 cases with ovarian lesions, 2 cases were malignant and 28 were benign. All malignant cases had central vascularity and (RI) less than 0.4. 6 cases out of benign masses had central vascularity 5 of them were poly-cystic ovarian disease and one case was cystadenofibroma. The remaining 22 benign masses had no central vascularity they only had either peripheral vascularity or no vascularity at all. The (RI) measured for benign masses were (0.6±0.1).
Conclusions: Ultrasonic color flow mapping and power Doppler studies used preoperatively on adnexal masses are widely available, performed rapidly and relatively easy, cost-effective and noninvasive method in diagnosis of adnexal masses preoperatively.
