Impact of Acupuncture on Constipation in Hypertensive Obese Patients, SHEHAB S. MENSHAWY, AKRAM A. SAYED, MOHAMED A. SHENDY and MAHMOUD A. ORA
Abstract
Background: Constipation is the common digestive complaint in the United States as per survey data. Ifs more common in women, the elderly and children. It occurs more frequently in the elderly, is felt to be due to an increasing number of health problems as human age and decease physical activity.
Objective: The study was conducted to detect the impact of multiple points stimulation acupuncture on constipation for obese hypertensive patient.
Methodology: Sіxty obese hypertensive patients of (both sexes male, female) complaining of chronic constipation participated in the study.
They were selected from (Geriatric Unit in Quiesna Hospital) in the period from September 2014 to November 2015. The patients were classified into two groups. Group 1 received acupuncture stimulus in addition to medical treatment acupressure points for relieving constipation: (St. 36): One finger breath lateral to inferior (distal) end of tibial tuberosity, (SP15): 4 can lateral to umbilicus on the nipple-line, (St. 25): 2 can lateral to umbilicus, (U.B 25): 1.5 can lateralto lower border of spinious process of 4 lumber vertebrae of upper border iliac crest. Group 2 received medical treatment only.
Results: The present study showed that heighly significant progressive improvement in the frequency of defecation in Group 1. As regard consistency of stool, the results showed that high significant progressive improvement in Group 1 after six and twelve weeks.
Conclusion: It was concluded that; combined medical treatment and multiple points acupuncture stimulation has beneficial effects on constipation for hypertensive obese patients.
