Impact of Coaching Program on Nurse Manages’ Awareness Regarding Coaching Leadership, ABEER R. KABEEL
Abstract
Background: In the increasingly complex environment of healthcare, the nurse manager provides vital leadership for healthy work environments, positive patient outcomes and achievement of organizational goals. The complexity, uncer-tainty and unpredictability of the environment have increased organizational interest for enhancing the effectiveness of managers’ activity, as well as that of their leaders. In order to change and optimize leadership behaviors and to increase professional performance, coaching is being used increasingly. Coaching is a tool for professional development of manage-ment, both on a personal level, and on organizational level.
Aim: The present study aims at investigating the impacts of a coaching program on nurse manages’ awareness regarding coaching leadership.
Methods: A quasi-experimental design was utilized to attain the aim of the study. With one-group pre-test/post-test design. The study sample composed of 18 nurse managers.
Result: The study findings favor the effect of the enhance-ment program because there was increased level of nurse managers’ awareness after the coaching program comparing with before it. The study sample showed statistically significant difference between levels of pre-program and post-program.
Recommendations: The study recommended that providing a Training program for nurse managers should done regarding the coaching leadership rather than traditional classroom training. The nurse manager, who has been successfully coached, will in turn be able to successfully coach staff would increase the return on investment of a formal, structured coaching program.
