A Program to Enhance Self-Esteem among Nursing Students in the Faculty of Nursing at Mansoura University, SHAIMAA K. HANAFI, MONA A. EL-BILSHA and MOHAMMED E. KHATER

 

Abstract
Background: Nursing students are confronted with signif-icant academic, psychological and social stressors throughout their training.
Aim: This program was conducted to enhance nursing student's self-esteem.
Method: A sample of 72 full time nursing students was recruited from all the four years from the Faculty of Nursing at Mansoura University. Two tools were used to accomplish this study including socio-demographic and academic ques-tionnaire and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE).
Results: The study findings favor the effect of the en-hancement program because there was increased level of self esteem among the nursing students immediately after the program and one month afterwards. The study sample showed statistically significant difference between levels of pre-program and post-program self-esteem.
Recommendations: The study recommended incorporating self-esteem-related teaching activities into the existing cur-riculum represents a feasible approach to enhance self-esteem in nursing students. Findings may provide Psychiatric Nursing Department with information to help them design programs to improve students' self-esteem.
