Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the effect of 3-month intradia-lytic Resisted Exercise (RE) program on Blood Pressure (BP) in patients undergoing regular Hemodialysis (HD).
Methodology: Forty patients of both genders, aged 30- 45 years on regular HD (3-sessions/week, four hours/session). The intervention group (n=20) received intradialytic RE during first 2 hours of their HD sessions 3 times/week for 3 months while control group (n=20) received HD sessions only. Systolic BP (SBP) and Diastolic BP (DBP) and Heart Rate (HR) were measured by Ambulatory BP (ABP) monitor during HD session. Measures were taken at baseline and after a 3-month from baseline measurements.
Results: After intervention, reduction in SBP and DBP during HD was observed in intervention group when compared to control group.
Conclusion: Intradialytic RE three times/week for 3- month in patients on regular HD had a positive effect in reduction of BP in those patients.
