Efficacy of Selected Traditional Abdominal Exercises Program in Treatment of Chronic Mechanical Low Back Pain, SAHAR A. ABD AL-BARY

 

 Abstract
Background: Mechanical Low Back Pain (MLBP) is one of the most frequent causes of disability. Purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the traditional abdominal muscle exercises on the mechanical low back pain in male office employee without lower extremity symptoms.
Material and Methods: Fifty patients were referred by the Orthopaedist to the Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic to this clinical trial study. Inclusion criteria were male patients office employee, body mass index less than 27kglm2 and age from 25 to 40 years.
Patients were assessed for back pain by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and O, swestry disability index.
'fliere was one group treated with the traditional abdominal exercise for 12 sessions 3 sessions every week.
Results: There were significant difference between the group before and after the treatment. The improvement for the pain measured by VAS was significant (p=0.05) and for O, swestry disability index was significant (p=O.01).
Conclusion: The traditional abdominal exercise program was effective in the treatment of mechanical low back pain in male office employee.
