The Role of Nursing in Promoting Adherence to Immunosuppressive Therapy in Transplant Patients: (Review Artical)
Abstract
Background: Renal transplantation is considered the most effective treatment for end-stage chronic renal disease. Compli-ance with the prescribed treatment plan, including immunosup-pressive therapy, dietary guidelines, and lifestyle adjustments, is crucial for the successful survival of a kidney transplant. However, research indicates that non-adherence to the compre-hensive treatment regimen remains a significant challenge. Aim of Study: This review aims to explore the role of nurs-ing in promoting adherence to immunosuppressive therapy among transplant patients. Methods: The review examines existing literature on ad-herence to immunosuppressive therapy, the factors influencing adherence, and the strategies employed by nurses to enhance patient compliance. Results: The review highlights the importance of the ther-apeutic alliance between the nurse and the kidney transplant patient in strengthening the patient's ability to manage their treatment plan and overcome barriers to adherence. Nursing interventions, such as patient education, medication manage-ment, and coordination of care, have been identified as crucial in improving adherence rates among transplant patients. Conclusion: Nurses play a vital role in promoting adher-ence to immunosuppressive therapy and the comprehensive treatment regimen among kidney transplant patients. The re-view emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach, involving nurses, healthcare providers, and patients, to address the complex issue of treatment adherence and improve long-term outcomes for transplant recipients
