Abstract
Aim: This study was conducted to assess the efficacy of micro current in post herpetic trigeminal neuralgia.
Methods and Subjects: The study was performed on thirty patients; they were divided into two equal groups, 15 patients (male and female) have post herpetic trigeminal neuralgia as a control group they received traditional medical treatment and other 15 patients (male and female) with post herpetic trigeminal neuralgia they received the application of MENS for 20min duration and intensity of maximum tolerable para-ethesia three times per week for 4 weeks. In addition to oral corticosteroid. Pain was evaluated using serum cortisol level test and visual analogue scale.
Results: Regarding visual analogue scale, there was significant difference between the two groups (p<0.0001), and there was significant difference between the two groups regarding serum cortisol level (p<0.0001).
Conclusion: Microcurrent electric stimulation had mod-ulating effect on patients with post herpetic trigeminal neu-ralgia.
