Nursing Staff 'Perception Regarding Factors Affecting their Performance in Selected Governmental Hospitals in Egypt, FARIDA S. ABDELMAKSOUD, NADIA T. MOHAMED and EGLAL A. ABDEL WAHAB
Abstract
Background: Nurses are the nervous center of the health world play a pivotal role in enlargement and success of the healthcare sector. In recent years it has been increasingly recognized that improving the performance of health personnel should be the core of any sustainable solution to health system performance.
Aim: This study aimed to assess nursing staff ' perception regarding factors affecting their performance in selected governmental hospitals in Egypt.
Design: Descriptive cross-sectional design was utilized.
Sample: Convenient samples of nurses were included according to the criteria of inclusion.
Setting: The study was conducted in three governmental hospitals affiliated to ministry of health in Egypt.
Tools: Data was collected using a questionnaire developed by the investigator to investigate the factors affecting on nurses performance from their perception.
Results: The finding of the current study indicated that the nurses perceived the most factors affecting on their per-formance was supervision (99.1%), followed by motivation (95.71 %) and nursing performance evaluation system (92.36). While, the least factor affecting on nurses performance was hospital policies (81.68%). The finding of the study indicated there was a positive correlation statistically significant between availability of motivation and its effect on nurse performance (p=0.03). While, there was a negative correlation statistically significant between availability of hospital policies and its effect on nurses performance (p=0.002).
Conclusion: The present study concluded that the most factors affecting on nurses performance was supervision and the least factor affecting was hospital policies.
Recommendation: Trained and well prepared professional and qualified nursing personnel to managed positions through training programs.
