Assessment of Emergency Departments Preparedness Regarding Chemical and Biological Disasters Management, AMAL A. MAHMOUD, MAGDA EL-MOL and MAGDA ABD EL-HAMID

 

Abstract
Background: A disaster is a type of emergency that, due to its complexity, scope, or duration, threatens the organiza-tion's capacities and requires outside assistance to sustain patient care, safety, or security.
Aim: To assess of Emergency Departments preparedness regarding chemical and biological disasters management.
Design: A descriptive design was utilized in conducting the study.
Settings: This study was conducted at Emergency Depart-ment in El-Kaser El-Ini Hospital.
Subject: A study sample of 150 nurses.
Tools of Data Collection: Two tools were utilized, demo-graphic data sheet, structured questionnaire sheet measure Emergency Department preparedness (fifty question).
The Result: There was statistical significant difference between planning for chemical and biological disaster man-agement in the hospital and level of preparedness, while there was no statistical significant difference between nursing staff readiness and their level of preparedness.
Conclusion: The study concluded that there inadequate level of Emergency Department preparedness.
Recommendation: An Emergency Departments should establishing center for chemical and biological disaster man-agement.
