Abstract
Hypogonadism in adult men is often overlooked, even in the presence of associated symptoms, because hypogonadal men often ignore their symptoms or attribute them to alternate causes including diabetes and ageing.
Objective: This study embarked on to investigate the association between serum level of total testosterone (TT), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients in Yemeni men.
Subjects and Methods: The study groups consisted of seventy five Yemeni men, thirty-seven of them with type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and the control group composed of thirty-eight healthy subjects. Complete medical history was taken from each subject and complete clinical examinations were performed for all men.
Results: This study showed a significant decrease in testosterone levels and a slight decrease in serum levels of LH in men with type 2 DM. On the otherhand, there was a relatively increase in mean serum levels of FSH with no significant differences as compared to control group.
Conclusion: From the present results it could be suggested that hypogonadism occurs commonly in Yemeni male with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
