Antibiotic Resistance: Current Strategies and Future Solutions
Abstract
Aim: This paper explores the urgent global challenge of antibiotic resistance, particularly its impact on healthcare, and highlights strategies to combat this rising threat. Methods: A comprehensive review of literature was con-ducted, examining the prevalence and consequences of anti-biotic resistance, especially in low- and middle-income coun-tries (LMICs), alongside successful interventions implemented globally. Results: Antibiotic resistance contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality, especially in intensive care units, with multi-drug resistant organisms like MRSA and ESBL-produc-ing bacteria becoming increasingly common. Economic impli-cations include higher healthcare costs and extended hospital stays. However, nations with robust antibiotic stewardship pro-grams have successfully reduced resistance rates. Conclusion: Immediate and coordinated global action is essential to mitigate antibiotic resistance, emphasizing respon-sible use, enhanced surveillance, and public education on pru-dent antibiotic practices.
