Abstract
Background: Obesity is considered one of the most com-mon global health problems. There are a lot of bariatric procedures to achieve the desirable weight loss. Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG) Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB) are two of the most common bariatric procedures.
The aim of the study to evaluate two of the most used bariatric operation namely laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic gastric band as weight reducing surgery.
Material and Methods: The present study included 60 morbidly obese patients. The patient population was divided into two subgroups; subgroup A, which underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and subgroup B, which underwent laparo-scopic gastric band.
Results: Study showed that both LSG and LAGB have achieved a good reduction in the excess weight. In this study we found that there is a high statistically significant difference as regard effect of both procedures on EWL% with a p-value of 0.001, with more EWL% in the group who had LSG, the mean EWL% in LSC was 61.89% while that of LAGB was 46.04%.
Conclusion: Both of the procedures are effective in re-ducing weight with more advantage for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
