Abstract
Obesity may be independently related to kidney disease. It is associated with increased renin-angiotensin system, sympathetic nervous activity, glomerular hyperperfusion and microalbuminuria.
Aim of Study: To evaluate the role of central obesity in development of chronic kidney disease.
Patients and Methods: Our study from May 2015 to May 2016 included 70 persons, divided into 2 groups according to their Body Mass Index (BMI). Obese group include 50 patients complaining of chronic kidney disease. Non-obese group include 20 persons. All were subjected to complete history taking, through clinical examination, anthropoetric measurements, serum (adiponectin, leptin), renal function tests, lipid profile, albumin: Creatinine ratio (A/C Ratio) and estimated Glomerular Filteration Rate (eGFR).
Results: A significant difference was found between (A/C Ratio, eGFR, S. leptin, S. Adiponectin) in central obese group and in control group. A highly significant correlation between two groups. A significant difference between male and female with eGFR and ACR. There was highly significant correlation between eGFR and (BMI, S. leptin and S. Adiponectin). Also a significant correlation between A/C Ratio and (B.M.I, Wast Hip Ratio (W.H.R) and S. Leptin) in obese group. A significant correlation between BMI and (S. Adiponectin and S. Leptin), and a significant correlation between W.H.R and (S. Triglyc-erides, S. Adiponectin, and Leptin) in obese patients.
Conclusion: Obesity is associated with an increased incidence of Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD), adiponectin and leptin plays a role as an endogenous protective factor against obesity-related initial renal injury.
