Abstract
Background: This study evaluated the safety and the efficacy of ultrasound guided stellate ganglion block in management of post mastectomy pain syndrome.
Methods: Thirty one patients complained of post mastec-tomy pain syndrome scheduled for ultrasound guided stellate ganglion block through lateral approach. Evaluated variables included occurrence of Horner’s syndrome, temperature of the upper limb and pain assessment using numerical pain intensity scale before and after the block.
Results: Occurrence of Horner’s syndrome recorded as all patients developed ptosis after the block. Numerical pain intensity scale and temperature were compared in the same group before and after the block and there was significance difference (p-value-0.001).
Conclusions: Ultrasound guided stellate ganglion block provided safe and effective management of post mastectomy pain syndrome.
