Paramedic Use of Telemedicine for Remote Patient Consultations: (Review Artical)

Abstract

Background: Injury is a significant global healthcare bur-den, accounting for 10% of deaths worldwide. Rural patients face higher mortality rates due to traumatic causes compared to urban patients. Factors contributing to this disparity include lack of traumatology proficiency in rural healthcare institutions and limited capacity for medical education and skills training. Telemedicine, or “teletrauma,” could address this issue by pro-viding advanced resources and skilled workers to isolated ar-eas. Telepresence, which includes video-teleconference and ex-pert assessment, can help provide continuous access to trauma surgeons at major trauma centers. Telemedicine has been used in emergency management and trauma treatment since military catastrophe exercises, and its effectiveness has been demon-strated in remote evaluations and resuscitations. Aim of Study: This analysis specifically examines the de-velopment of telemedicine programs in the context of trauma and emergency medical treatment, both at the national and in-ternational levels. Methods: The review examines existing literature on use of telemedicine for remote patient consultations. Results: The development of telemedicine has been influ-enced by the growing need to address global health require-ments, as well as market-driven factors. The fields of trauma and emergency medicine encounter substantial obstacles in terms of the availability of healthcare, specialized knowledge,

and advanced technology. Telemedicine functions as a means to connect these disparities on a worldwide and local level, pro-viding the utmost level of knowledge and treatment to the most isolated areas. Telehealth has facilitated the progress of patient care, surgical education, and inter-institutional collaboration by utilizing contemporary technology. Conclusion: This review article focuses on the develop-ment of telemedicine in trauma and emergency management. It explores recent advancements in technology and applications that can be utilized by a broad range of healthcare providers to effectively address the needs of patients in need of trauma and emergency medical care.
