Abstract
Background: This study assessed the metabolic effect of perioperative amino acid infusion regarding serum blood glucose, insulin level, insulin resistance, blood pH and blood НСО3.
Methods: Two equal comparable groups each one had 21 cancer patients, scheduled for pelvi-abdominal surgery were randomly allocated into Aminoven group that received Aminoven 10% solution and Ringer group that received warm Ringer solution. Evaluated variables included Serum blood glucose, insulin level, insulin resistance, blood pH and blood НСО3.
Results: Aminoven group showed significant increase in Serum blood glucose, insulin level, insulin resistance, blood pH and blood НСОg.
Conclusions: Our findings suggest that Amino acid infusion before anesthesia and surgery accelerates the increase in blood glucose concentration, stimulates insulin secretion and reduces the incidence of metabolic acidosis.
