Abstract
Objective: Evaluation The Relationship between Vdr Receptor Gene Polymorphism (Bsml), level of Interleukin 2 and level of Vitamin D in diabetic patients and study their role in increasing the susceptibility to Type 1 diabetes.
Methods: Estimation of fasting blood glucose, 25 hydroxy Vitamin D3 by Elisa Technique, Polymerase Chain Reaction-rflp (PCR-RFLP) of Vdr Gene Polymorphism (Bsml) with (Rs 1544410) and determination the level of Interleukin 2 by Elisa Technique.
Results: There were a highly significant difference between cases and controls as regard serum level of Vitamin D with p<0.001 and Il2 with (p<0.001) and there was a significant negative correlation between Vitamin D and Il2 levels in diabetic patients (r=–0.68, p<0.001). In addition there was no significant association in allele or genotype frequencies between Type 1 DM patients and controls for Vdr polymor-phism (p=0.79).
Conclusion: Vitamin D3 deficiency is common among diabetic patients and associated with elevation of Il2 level in the same patients. In addition there is no association between VDR (Bsml) polymorphism and Type 1 diabetic patients.
