Abstract
Background and Purpose: The current study was conduct-ed to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of exercises and kinesio tape on range of motion of neck and jaw after glos-sectomy.
Subjects: 45 patients (36 male and 9 female) their ages ranged from 45 to 60 had decreased the functioning of jaw, neck post partial glossectomy and neck dissection for tongue cancer selected randomly from Cairo University National Cancer Institute.
Methods: Patients were randomly subdivided into three equal groups Group (A) (Kinesio tape and exercises group). Patients received Kinesio tape and exercise program in addition to their routine medications three times a week for four weeks. Group (B) (Exercises group): Patients received exercises program three times a week for four weeks in addition to their routine of medications. Group (C) (kinesio tape group) patient receive kinesio tape in addition to their routine medications.
Assessment: The assessment was carried out pre and post treatment for pain, range of motion of mouth opening and range of motion of neck flexion, side bending and neck rotation. The gained measures were analyzed by using SPSS program and ANOVA test was used to compare between groups.
Results: This study showed a significant decrease in pain and increase in range of motion of mouth opening and range of motion of neck flexion ,side bending and neck rotation after application of Kinesio taping and exercise when compared with exercises only and exercises are more effective than kinesio tape only.
Conclusion: Usage of Kinesio tape and exercises results in improvement of range of motion of neck and jaw more than usage of exercise only and exercise only is more effective than Kinesio tape only.
