Abstract
Background: An exercise training program is critical to a burn patient's long-term success. Using exercise training program will enhance IL6 levels in the body and its post inflammatory effect.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of exercise training program (aerobic exercise and resistive exercise) on IL-6 in burned patients.
Method: Thirty patients with ages ranged from 20 to 40 years with 15% or more Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) who suffered burn at least since one week ago participated in this study. The patients were randomly selected from Matay General Hospital Banimazar General Hospital and Banimazar insurance hospital and divided into 2 groups. Group A: Par-ticipated in 4-week of physical rehabilitation program (Resisted ex. and Aerobic ex.). Group B: Participated in 4-week of physical rehabilitation program (traditional exercise only) (stretching ex, scar rehabilitation, R.O.M and ADL) three times per week for both groups. Measurements of IL-6 were collected before treatment and one month after treatment.
Results: There was no significant difference in IL-6 pre study measures between both groups. Post treatment there was a significant increase in IL-6 in study group compared with control group (p=0.0001).
Conclusion: Exercise training program slow down the deterioration of IL-6 plasma levels after burn which is impor-tant for maximizing the good effect of post inflammatory abilities of IL-6.
