Abstract
Objective: The aim of this work is to compare the results of six months follow-up after Living Donor Liver Transplan-tation (LDLT) in cirrhotic patients with and without Hepato-cellular Carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: Fifty patients who underwent living donor liver transplantation at El-Sahel Teaching Hospital were retrospec-tively reviewed for preoperative, operative, ICU and the 6 months postoperative data.
Results: The patients were classified into two groups, 25 cirrhotic patients with HCC (Group 1) and 25 patients had end stage liver disease without HCC (Group 2), preoperative MELD score was significantly high in HCC group than cirrhotic group. The child score showed no significant differ-ence between groups. No significant difference between the groups regarding the ICU hospital stay and the number of death during this period (p-value=0.22), (p-value=0.67) re-spectively. The preoperative MELD score was correlated significantly to post-operative outcome in HCC group (p-value=0.049), postoperative renal impairment (p-value=0.022), total complications (p-value=0.04) but not related to either in non HCC group (p-value=0.37). No significant difference between two groups as regard total six month complications (p-value=0.56).
Conclusion: No difference in short term 6 months outcome between patients undergoing liver transplantation for HCC and those undergoing liver transplantation for non-malignant end stage liver disease.
